Five Ahvaz political prisoners endure torture in Sheyban Prison amid unfair trials. Discover their final defense, health crises, and Iran’s human rights abuses.

Iran Human Rights Society, on Monday, September 22, 2025- Political prisoners in Iran face relentless torture and unfair trials. On September 22, 2025, the Iran Human Rights Society highlighted a shocking case. Five detainees in Ahvaz’s Sheyban Prison—Mokhtar Alboshokeh, Mostafa Helichi, Reza Hezbawi, Abbas Saedi, and Amer Machasabeh—delivered their final defense. They appeared via videoconference. Investigator Lirki from Branch 13 led the hearing. The Ahvaz Revolutionary Court now awaits the verdict. These men fight charges of “membership in a rebellious group.” Authorities extracted confessions through brutal force in December 2024. This story exposes deep systemic flaws. Furthermore, it underscores urgent calls for justice.

How Authorities Arrested and Tortured These Political Prisoners in Iran

Security forces struck hard in December 2024. Mostafa Helichi and Reza Hezbawi, a poet and activist, fell first. VAPA agents grabbed them. They endured a month in the detention center. Then, officials moved them to Sheyban Prison’s Ward 5. One week later, captors seized Mokhtar Alboshokeh, Abbas Saedi, and Amer Machasabeh. Guards dragged them to VAPA’s facility. There, interrogators unleashed severe physical torture. Beatings left lasting scars. Confessions came under duress. However, no solid evidence supports the charges. Sources confirm the pattern persists.

Dire Health Conditions of Ahvaz’s Political Prisoners in Iran

These five men suffer greatly. Mokhtar Alboshokeh endures without relief. He entered prison in March 2011. No furlough has granted him freedom since. A hernia plagues him from years in Sheyban and old Karun Prison. Recent beatings infected the wound. Pain surges daily. Therefore, he begs for care. Yet, authorities block it. The others face similar woes. Guards deny medical access. Inhumane cells breed illness. Filth and isolation worsen everything. Families watch helplessly. Urgent treatment remains out of reach.

Key Human Rights Violations Against Iran’s Political Prisoners

Iran’s system crushes basic rights. This case reveals the truth. First, fair trials vanish. Vague accusations lack proof. Courts ignore facts. Second, health rights crumble. Officials withhold care amid dirty conditions. Prisoners rot without aid. Third, freedom and security erode. Unlawful arrests multiply. Torture repeats endlessly. Finally, self-defense falters. Independent lawyers stay barred. Hearings silence voices. Therefore, justice twists into oppression. Activists demand change. However, threats loom large.

Psychological Tactics Targeting Political Prisoners in Iran

Torment extends beyond the body. Guards wield fear as a weapon. Physical abuse pairs with mind games. Constant threats echo in cells. Visits dwindle to nothing. Medical delays drag on. As a result, mental breakdowns strike. Prisoners battle despair daily. Human rights watchers note the control. Intimidation breaks spirits. Furthermore, isolation amplifies pain. Families endure the fallout too. This cycle sustains power. Yet, resilience flickers amid the dark.

Mokhtar Alboshokeh knows chains well. He landed in custody on March 21, 2011. Karun Prison held him first. Later, Sheyban became his cage. Vague security charges earned life. Evidence? Almost none. His hernia screams for help. Family pleas for furlough fall flat. Judicial walls stand firm. Security blocks every step. In December 2024, a new trap snapped. Agents claimed he linked with freed activists. On December 5, guards hauled him to VAPA. Bound like a “roasted chicken,” he faced fists and screams. Bruises marked his return. Reliable eyes saw the damage. He struck back with hunger. His letter roared protest. “Expose the inhumanity,” he wrote. On December 18, they shoved him back to Sheyban. Two weeks of hell ended. Still, the fight burns.

Arrest and Abuse of Reza Hezbawi and Mostafa Helichi

Reza Hezbawi – Mustafa Haliji

Cultural voices fell silent in December 2024. Security swept up Reza Hezbawi and Mostafa Helichi. VAPA’s grip tightened for a month. Torture filled the interrogations. Suspension tore at limbs. Cables whipped feet and flesh. Blows hit tender spots. Bodies crumbled. Hospitals called repeatedly. Yet, details hide in shadows. Charges? Unclear. Proceedings? Opaque. Reports scream of the brutality.

Reza Hezbawi, 36, pens poetry. He fathers two young ones. Back in November 2011, arrest struck again. He mourned poet Sattar Sayahi’s funeral. Four months in jail followed. Flogging loomed, but a fine swapped in. History repeats.

Mostafa Helichi crossed invisible lines. He chatted with exiles abroad. Vague ties to activists sealed it. Khuzestan’s net snares many. Evidence? Courts skip it. Therefore, innocence drowns in doubt.
