Execution of political prisoner GedaAli SaberMotlagh in Lakan prison in Rasht
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Saturday, November 26, 2023. Judiciary carried out execution of political prisoner GedaAli SaberMotlagh in Lakan Prison in his 62nd year, and committed another crime.
According to an informed source. GedaAli SaberMotlagh, son of Hussein, 62 years old, arrested on charges of supporting the Mujahedin-e Khalq. He also was tortured and interrogated and sentenced to death in a case that had been closed for years . And was reopened by the judiciary again.
Mr. GedaAli SaberMotlagh protested against this in March 2020 by going on a long hunger strike that lasted more than a month. Despite his kidney and liver diseases, his condition worsened due to pressure and interrogation.
According to resolutions passed in the United Nations General Assembly, the Iranian government has the highest number of executions relative to its population. Most of the trials conducted in Iran are outside international standards and unfair.
History of execution in Iran
Historically, execution has been a tool of power and governance for dictators to intimidate and also subdue people. Dictatorship ruling Iran using execution permanently for the past 40 years to create fear and also establish its own rule. Abandoning execution and suppression means the destruction of the current oppressive government.
Currently, 104 countries have abolished the death penalty through referendums. And also 50 countries have abolished methods leading to death, and only 6 countries will have the death penalty during wartime.
Currently, only 34 countries use inhumane execution as a punishment. Iran, under the rule of fundamentalist leaders, ranks second in terms of numbers and also first in terms of executions per capita.
