Late on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, lawyer Adel Ahmadian announced on his page in the X network that the retrial request for death row political prisoner Mehdi Hasani rejected.
The rejection of the retrial for political prisoner Mehdi Hasani by the Revolutionary Court
Adel Ahmadian, Mehdi Hasani’s lawyer, wrote on his page:
“For the second time, the retrial of Mehdi Hasani (sentenced to death for the charge of baghi) rejected in Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court without the file being requested from Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court. Meanwhile, none of the judicial authorities agreed to my request to review the file.”
Previously, in March 2024, Mehdi Hasani’s retrial rejected by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court in the Judiciary.
Mehdi Hasani and Behrouz Ehsani Islamloo sentenced to death by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, headed by Judge Iman Afshari, at the end of September 2025, and the death sentences of these two prisoners were confirmed on 7th January without going through the appeals court by the Supreme Court.
These two political prisoners sentenced to death transferred from Evin Prison to Gohardasht Prison on Sunday, January 26t, 2025, after their case files sent for execution.
About political prisoner Mehdi Hasani
Mehdi Hasani, born in 1976, 48 years old, married with three children, is from the city of Rey. He arrested on September 10, 2022, in Zanjan and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. He subjected to physical and psychological torture for a long time and later moved to Ward 8 of Evin Prison.
The charges against Mehdi Hasani include “baghi, moharebeh, and ifsad fil-arz membership in the Mojahedin, collecting classified information, and conspiracy against national security.”
About political prisoner Behrouz Ehsani Islamloo
Behrouz Ehsani Islamloo, born in 1955, 70 years old, from Urmia. And residing in Tehran, is a diploma holder with a free profession, married with two children. He is the head of the family and has an elderly mother. The sudden transfer of Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hasani, two political prisoners sentenced to death, to an unknown location
Mr. Ehsani arrested at his home in November 2022 amid the nationwide uprising. And transferred to the 209 ward of Evin Prison, related to the Ministry of Intelligence.
After three and a half months of torture and interrogation, he moved to Ward 4 of Evin Prison.
The charges against Mr. Behrouz Ehsani include “baghi, moharebeh, ifsad fil-arz, membership in the Mojahedin, collecting classified information, and conspiracy against national security.”
Amnesty International’s call to halt the death sentences of Mehdi Hasani and Behrouz Ehsani
Amnesty International, in January 2024, issued an official statement calling for the immediate halt to the execution of the death sentences for political prisoners Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hasani. In this statement, Amnesty International stated that these prisoners subjected to torture. And also other ill-treatment, including prolonged solitary confinement, in order to confess. And their trial by the Revolutionary Court in Tehran was severely unfair.
