Siamak Amini, 64-year-old political prisoner held in Ward 7 of Evin Prison, is struggling with Behcet’s disease, osteoporosis and other physical problems, and has recently also suffered an injury to the rib area. His family and fellow inmates have demanded his immediate transfer to treatment centers outside the prison.
Iran Human Rights Society, Wednesday June 24, 2026 – Concerns about the physical condition of Siamak Amini, political prisoner held in Evin Prison, have increased. This 64-year-old prisoner who suffers from multiple diseases, was recently transferred to the hospital due to injury in the rib area, but was returned to prison again without providing clear explanations about his medical condition and treatment process. Human rights activists and political prisoners, pointing to his physical condition, have demanded urgent medical attention for him.
Why is Siamak Amini’s physical condition described as concerning?

Based on published reports, Siamak Amini, in addition to problems caused by aging, suffers from Behcet’s disease. Behcet’s disease is considered a chronic inflammatory and autoimmune disorder that can affect various parts of the body and, if not properly cared for, can bring serious complications.
In addition to this, reports indicate his affliction with osteoporosis and other physical problems; conditions that have caused his family and relatives during the past months to repeatedly demand examination of the issue of “intolerance to imprisonment.”
Now the new injury in the rib area has also been added to his set of physical problems and has increased concerns about his ability to continue enduring prison conditions.
What was the story of Siamak Amini’s transfer to the hospital?
Based on published information, on Monday June 22, 2026, Siamak Amini was transferred to Taleghani Hospital due to severe pain in the rib area and deterioration of his physical condition.
However, according to informed sources, neither he himself nor his family have received clear explanations about the result of the medical examinations. It has also not been clarified whether the inflicted injury has led to fracture or cracking of the ribs or not.
Reports indicate that doctors have only stated that this injury requires the passage of time and no special treatment action has been taken for it. Despite the continuation of pain and concerns about his health status, Siamak Amini was returned to Evin Prison again the same night.
Why is his family demanding urgent medical action?
Siamak Amini’s family believes that the set of underlying diseases and new physical injuries have created a situation where continuing to keep him in prison could endanger his health and life.
According to his relatives, the issue of intolerance to imprisonment had also been raised before, but did not reach a result. Also, after the attack on Evin Prison in Tir 1404 (June/July 2025), it was announced to his family that his medical file was destroyed during that incident; an issue that has faced the process of following up on his treatment status with more problems.
Published reports also show that in the past months, due to his refusal to wear prison uniform, in some cases his necessary transfer to treatment centers has been accompanied by delay or restriction.

What is Siamak Amini’s judicial status?
Siamak Amini has been in prison since August 2024. He has been sentenced to four years in prison and supplementary punishments.
He had previously also been a political prisoner for five years in the 1360s (1980s) and was released from prison in 1989. Now while serving his sentence in Ward 7 of Evin Prison, his physical condition has become one of the main concerns of his family and fellow inmates.
Also after the end of the twelve-day war, a number of civil, political and human rights activists have demanded the release or granting of medical leave to elderly prisoners, sick prisoners and those needing special medical care.
Examination of the rights of the case based on domestic laws Legal ambiguities of the case
In Siamak Amini’s case, the question is raised whether his physical condition and the opinion of specialist doctors have been fully taken into account in judicial and administrative decisions or not. It is also not clear why, despite multiple diseases and new physical injury, the possibility of medical attention and use of legal capacities for treatment outside the prison has not been provided.
