Zahra Safaei is a political prisoner born in 1962 in Tehran. She is one of the political prisoners of the 60s who spent 8 years in Evin and GhezelHesar prisons in the 60s due to her support for the Mujahidin-e-Khalq. Her father, Hassanali Safaei (known as Hajj Safaei), was a renowned Tehran merchant and political prisoner during the dictatorship of the Pahlavi regime and the shameful rule of the Supreme Leader, who was executed in Evin prison in 1981.
Zahra Safaei is a mother of two children. Along with her daughter and son, Parastoo and Amir Masoud Moeini, she was arrested on September 22, 2023, at home and transferred to Evin prison ward 209.

8 years in prison for insulting Khamenei
She was arrested in February 2020 with her daughter, Parastoo Mo’ini, in Tehran. In December 2020, she was tried by Judge Shahmirzadi in Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court and was sentenced to 8 years in prison on charges such as “gathering and conspiring against the system,” “propaganda against the system,” and “insulting Khamenei and Khomeini.”
Her children, Parastoo and Mohammad Masoud Mo’ini, were also tried in the same court and each sentenced to 6 years in prison.
Zahra Safaei and her daughter were pressured during interrogations to make televised confessions. They were also deprived of access to their chosen lawyer by order of the judge. She was threatened with death by the Ministry of Intelligence while in Qarchak and Varamin Prison on Monday, June 13, 2020.
Ms. Safaei and her children were released from Evin Prison in February 2023.”
