Execution in public:

During the past year, a public execution carried out in Shiraz.
Iman Sabzikar was executed in public in Shiraz at 5:40 am on July 23, 2022. He was accused of murdering Ali Akbar Ranjbar, a police officer.

Before this execution, the public execution of prisoners had been stopped for two years during the outbreak of the Corona virus.

Political executions on charges of killing government officials:(World Day Against Death Penalty)

The number of political executions and executions accused of murdering government officials has also increased in this period. As the protests escalated, the accusations of killing government officials, especially the police and security forces, and the Basij were very high.
The judiciary has prioritized these executions to create terror and frighten the citizens. Also, the distance between arrest and execution in such cases is very short. And even according to the system’s own rules, in many cases it is illegal.

Many prisoners are not even allowed to have an appointed lawyer, or their lawyers are not allowed full access to file. (Example of the execution of Iman Sabzikar

High number of prisoners awaiting execution:

Despite the proposal to amend the death penalty law regarding drug charges, currently the number of executions on drug charges is very high. Among them, we can mention Qezalhasar prisons and Karaj Central prison. It stated in a report that reached the Iranian Human Rights Society and published earlier. “There are many prisoners under death sentence in the central prisons of Karaj and Qazalhisar. And it is suspected that according to received news, speed of execution of death sentences will accelerate. Karaj Central Prison has ten halls, in each hall there are at least 100 people under death sentence. This means that at least a thousand people are under death sentence in this prison.”

Expediting execution of death sentences in Iran:

The Iranian Human Rights Society announced on February 11, 2022. The general crimes prosecutor went to Gohardasht prison and issued an order to determine assignment of 300 ordinary prisoners sentenced to death who are accused of murder. After this action, the execution of Gohardasht prison took action to open the case of 300 prisoners sentenced to death. Therefore, if families of victims do not give their consent, these prisoners will be executed.

Also, Iran International announced in a report that it has obtained documents. based on which the judicial authorities have put execution cases on their agenda with urgency.

Amnesty International also on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. In a report, he warned about the terrible wave of executions in Iran and demanded to stop it.
