35 more prisoners were executed in various prisons during the past three weeks in Iran

This new wave of executions in Iran is a direct result of the nationwide protests and the growing demands of the people for freedom and justice. The government is intensifying repression in an attempt to prevent the protests from spreading.

Iran Human Rights Society, Tuesday, February 10, 2026- 35 prisoners were executed in prisons across the country. The execution statistics by day are as follows:

Execution of 2 prisoners in Sari Prison

At dawn on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, two prisoners were executed in Sari Prison. Their charges were related to drug offenses. Both were natives of Sari:

Taha Shirzad, arrested about 3 years ago.
Kazem Farajinejad, 48 years old, married and father of 2 children, arrested about 3 years ago.

Execution of 3 prisoners in Yazd Prison

At dawn on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, three prisoners were executed in Yazd Prison. Their charges were related to drug offenses. One has been identified as Afshin Ghanbari. The identities of the other two prisoners are under investigation.

Execution of Pirouz Pirvani in Shiraz Prison

In the morning on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 , Pirouz Pirvani was executed in Shiraz Prison. His charge was related to drug offenses.

Execution of Rajabali Arya in Sabzevar Prison

At dawn on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 Rajabali Arya was executed in Sabzevar Prison. His charge was related to drug offenses.

At dawn on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Ali Mirdar was executed in Gorgan Prison. He was 32 years old, a native of Gonbad-e Kavus, arrested about 3 years ago on murder charges, and sentenced to death.

In the morning on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, two prisoners were executed in Gorgan Prison:

Naser Shahmoradi, 43 years old, native of Gorgan, married and father of 2 children, arrested 6 years ago on murder charges and sentenced to death.

Ahmad Borhani, 29 years old, arrested about 2 years ago on murder charges and sentenced to death.

Execution of 3 prisoners in Isfahan Prison

Mehrdad Siachi, 26 years old, native of Shahin Shahr, arrested about 4 years ago on murder charges and sentenced to death.

Aref Hashemi, native of Khomeini Shahr, previously arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death.

Mahnaz Roshani, native of Shahin Shahr; her charge is under investigation.

Execution of 2 prisoners in Taybad Prison

At dawn on Thursday, January 29, 2026, two prisoners were executed in Taybad Prison:

Morad Azizi, native of Taybad, arrested about 3 years ago on murder charges and sentenced to death.

Karim Nazari, Afghan national from Herat, arrested about 2 years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Execution of Kaveh Hosseinzadeh in Yazd Prison

In the morning on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Kaveh Hosseinzadeh was executed in Yazd Prison. He was 32 years old, native of Yazd, married and father of a young child, arrested about 2 years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Execution of 5 prisoners in Adel-Abad Prison, Shiraz

At dawn on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, five prisoners were executed in Adel-Abad Prison in Shiraz:

Saeed Amjadi, 35 years old, native of Rasht, arrested about 3 years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Rahim Mirzazadeh, native of Beshman village in Anzali, arrested about 4 years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Ebrahim Abbasi, 53 years old, native of Rasht, married and father of 4 children, arrested about 1 year and 5 months ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Seifeddin Mehraban, 23 years old, Afghan national from Baghlan province, arrested about 2 years ago on murder charges and sentenced to death.

Namagh Kasravi, 25 years old, Afghan national from Baghlan province, arrested about 2 years ago on murder charges and sentenced to death.

Incompatibility of the Death Penalty with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights explicitly states: Everyone has the right to life. This right shall not be arbitrarily deprived except pursuant to a final judgment by a competent court for a crime punishable by law.

The death penalty, as the highest form of punishment, directly contradicts this article because:

Right to life: It is presented as a fundamental and inalienable right. The death penalty revokes this right.

Irreversibility: Once carried out, there is no possibility to remedy a judicial error.

Torture and inhuman treatment: Some methods of execution are considered torture or inhuman treatment, which violates the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Violation of human rights obligations regarding the death penalty

According to Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which Iran has signed, the imposition and execution of the death penalty are only permitted in the presence of full guarantees for a fair trial and for the most serious crimes. In many similar cases, lack of transparency, restrictions on the defendant’s rights, and issuance of verdicts in courts lacking necessary independence are considered violations of this fundamental human rights principle.
