Urgent Call on World Day Against the Death Penalty

Join the 89th week of Tuesdays No to Execution in 52 Iranian prisons. Demand an end to state killings amid rising executions on World Day Against the Death Penalty.

Iran Human Rights Society, Tuesday, October 7, 2025 – The Tuesdays No to Execution campaign marks its 89th week today. Protesters in 52 prisons across Iran join hunger strikes. They demand an end to state executions. This effort coincides with the World Day Against the Death Penalty. Global efforts push for abolition or sharp cuts in capital punishment. Yet, Iran’s regime sets brutal records daily. Therefore, activists honor fallen prisoners and amplify their voices.

From teachers to students, “No to Execution” echoes everywhere. The regime uses death as a weapon. It aims to silence dissent. However, this only fuels resistance. On October 7, 2025, the Iran Human Rights Society highlights these struggles. They remember six Arab political prisoners: Ali Majdam, Mohammad Reza Moqaddam, Moein Khanfari, Habib Deris, Adnan Ghabishavi, and Seyed Salem Mousavi. They also mourn Kurdish activist Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh.

Executions Spike: Shocking Figures from Recent Months

Execution of 7 political prisoners in Ahvaz and Qezl-e Hassar

Iran’s death toll soars. From October 1, 2024, to October 7, 2025, authorities executed 1,695 people. Since March 21, 2025—the start of the Persian year 1404—957 executions occurred in just six and a half months. These numbers shock the world. Yet, many cases remain hidden. Real figures likely exceed these counts. The regime’s savagery knows no bounds.

Consider this: On Saturday, October 4, 2025, executioners killed those six Arab prisoners and Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh. That same day, the Supreme Court upheld Mohammad Javad Vafaei-Sani’s death sentence for the third time. Such acts crush families and communities. Furthermore, they target ethnic minorities like Arabs and Kurds. Activists in the Tuesdays No to Execution movement refuse to stay silent.

Global Contrast: Iran Defies Worldwide Abolition Trend

The world moves toward mercy. Amnesty International reports progress. By December 2024, 113 countries fully abolished the death penalty in law. In total, 145 nations ended it either legally or practically. However, Iran marches backward. The shadow of gallows lengthens here. Executions serve politics, not justice.

Why does this persist? The regime fears uprising. Protests simmer across society. Therefore, leaders wield execution as intimidation. Every demonstration—from workers’ strikes to retirees’ rallies—faces this threat. Students and teachers chant “No to Execution” in unison. This slogan unites the oppressed. It signals a breaking point.

Regime’s Tool of Fear: Executions Target Protesters

Farzad Kamangar and his students

From the regime’s view, every protester deserves terror. They mix executions with long imprisonments. This strategy aims to paralyze action. Yet, it backfires. “Tuesdays No to Execution” grows stronger each week. Members strike in cells nationwide. They expose the system’s cruelty.

Look at the victims. Political prisoners like Vafaei-Sani fight unfair trials. Ethnic activists face biased courts. The campaign spotlights these injustices. Moreover, it builds solidarity. Hunger strikes draw global eyes to Iran’s prisons.

Honoring Educators: Lessons from Martyred Teachers

Today also marks World Teachers’ Day. The Tuesdays No to Execution group extends warm congratulations to educators. They honor icons like Samad Behrangi and Farzad Kamangar. These teachers spread freedom and equality. Behrangi’s stories inspired generations. Kamangar died for his beliefs. Both sacrificed everything for a just Iran.

Teachers now lead protests too. They demand fair pay and rights. Retirees join them, as do workers. This broad alliance weakens the regime’s grip.

A Unified Cry: End the Death Penalty Now

The Tuesdays No to Execution campaign stresses a key truth. Capital punishment delivers no justice. It offers no deterrence. Instead, it breeds more violence. The state normalizes killing. Therefore, we urge action. Awakened consciences must speak out. Civil activists, writers, artists—join the chorus. Teachers, retirees, workers—amplify the call.

Raise voices against executions. Strip the regime of its deadliest tool. Only then can true paths open. Justice and freedom await. Together, we dismantle repression. The 89th week proves it: Change brews in every prison yard.
