According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, reports indicated that another prisoner named Daryoush Bahrami executed on Saturday, October 28, 2023, in Karaj Central Prison.
Increase in executions in Karaj. According to the report, on Thursday, October 19, 2023, three prisoners sentenced to death for drug offenses, including Daryoush Bahrami, Khorshid Naghiani, and Davood Heydari, transferred to solitary confinement for execution. The sentence of these three prisoners carried out in the early morning of Saturday, October 22, 2023.
These three prisoners transferred from Ward 2 of Karaj Central Prison to carry out the sentence.
Previously, news of the execution of two of them, Khosro Naghiani and Davood Heydari, had published. Including these executions, at least 78 prisoners executed in Iranian prisons in October.
Historically, execution has been a tool of power and dictatorship to intimidate and subdue people. The dictatorship ruling Iran has also been using the tool of execution for over forty years to create fear and establish its permanent rule, because refraining from using the tool of execution and repression means the destruction of the system of the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist. 104 countries have abolished the death penalty through referendums.
50 countries have abolished this method of death and 6 countries only use execution during wartime. Currently, only 34 or 36 countries use this inhumane punishment, with Iran ranking second in terms of the number of executions per year among these countries and also first in terms of the proportion of the population executed in the world!
