Javaid Rahman’s concern about human rights violations in Iran

According to the report of the Iranian Human Rights Society, Mr. Javaid Rahman, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, presented his report to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

Mr. Javaid Rahman has called for international pressure to stop executions and the violation of human rights laws by government leaders, citing the unfairness of court proceedings and the systematic use of torture in interrogations.

According to the report of the Iranian Human Rights Society, Mr. Javaid Rahman, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, presented his report to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

In his report, Rahman referred to the increase in the number of arrests, executions, and arbitrary killings by security forces. He also mentioned the government’s actions in suppressing dissenters.

Government officials use threats, imprisonment, and other means to silence dissenters, including lawyers, human rights defenders, and anyone seeking their fundamental rights.

The number of executions has been on the rise

He expressed concern about the violation of human rights in Iran regarding the increase in the number of executions and said, “I am very concerned about the issue of the use of the death penalty.

I am concerned about the increase in the number of executions. In 2022, there were at least 582 executions, and in just this year, in 2023, we have reports of at least 572 executions. I am deeply concerned that Iran has executed more than 305 people this year alone on drug-related charges.

These statistics are completely unacceptable. Seven people were executed for participating in nationwide protests that began on September 16th.

These individuals deprived of the right to a fair trial and due process and were subjected to torture and mistreatment before their execution.”

He also referred to the suppression of ethnic minorities and the repression of people in the provinces of Sistan and Baluchistan and Kurdistan and called for an end to the repression.

Unfair judicial process

Mr. Javaid Rahman has pointed out the unfairness of the judicial process and the systematic use of torture during interrogations, and has called for international pressure to stop executions and the violation of human rights laws by the ruling government.

He said: I believe that all executions in Iran are a voluntary deprivation of the right to life due to serious fundamental flaws in criminal laws, violation of fair trial, systematic use of torture, and violation of the right to fair trial.

I urge representatives of different countries to put pressure on the Iranian government, and call on the global community to support me in criticizing and condemning Iranian authorities for violating international laws and the arbitrary and illegal deprivation of the Iranian people’s right to life.

Serious violation of human rights in government laws.

He also pointed to the serious violation of human rights in the government’s constitution and demanded the guarantee of freedoms according to international treaties. He said in this regard:

“Previously, I mentioned in my report that there are serious limitations in the framework of Iran’s constitution and politics. These restrictions lead to the negation of the principles of the rule of law, the erosion of pluralistic values and, as a result, the lack of democratic accountability.

The laws and policies of the regime continuously violate the right to freedom of assembly and peaceful organizations, including the right to form and join political parties, labor and labor unions. … Every Iranian must have the right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly in accordance with the treaties and commitments given by Iran within the framework of international human rights laws and the mechanisms of the International Labor Organization.

Since the summer of 2018, Mr. Javaid Rahman has been appointed as the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran. During these years, he has pointed out the widespread violation of human rights in Iran by the heads of the government in continuous reports.
