Trial of Seven political prisoners accused of “baghi” (armed rebellion against the state) scheduled on October 7, 2024, in Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari.
These prisoners are Akbar Daneshfar, Mojtaba Taghavi, Vahid Bani-Amerian, Seyed Mohammad Taghavi, Abolhassan Montazer, Babak Alipour, and Pouya Ghobadi. According to the Iranian Human Rights Society on Saturday, September 14, 2024, the date and court for their trial were confirmed.
Previously, on Sunday, June 30, 2024, political prisoners Vahid Bani-Amerian, Babak Alipour, and Pouya Ghobadi transferred to court. Additionally, on June 25, 2024, the same prisoners, along with three others, Seyed Abolhassan Montazer, Mojtaba Taghavi, and Ali Akbar Daneshfar, summoned for a hearing. However, Seyed Mohammad Taghavi, Vahid Bani-Amirian, Babak Alipour, and Pouya Ghbadi refused to wear prison uniforms and did not attend the court session.
Political Prisoner Abolhassan Montazer
Abolhassan Montazer, born in 1959 in Tehran, married and has two children. He was a political prisoner during the Shah’s regime, arrested in 1977 in Mashhad and imprisoned for six months in Vakilabad Prison. Prior to that, he arrested during his military service by the Army’s Intelligence Unit (Rokn 2) and held in detention for 45 days before being released.
In June 1981, he arrested again in Mashhad. And after trial imprisoned for four years and three months in Vakilabad Prison. He released in October 1985.
In June 2018, Montazer arrested again and sentenced to five years in prison. After being exiled to Gohardasht Prison, he eventually released on March 30, 2022. He is currently in critical physical condition due to the tearing of internal heart stitches.
Seyed Mohammad Taghavi’s trial
Seyed Mohammad Taghavi was arrested in March 2024 and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. He previously arrested in 2020 and spent around three years in Evin Prison on charges of supporting and being connected to the People’s Mojahedin Organization. Taghavi released in February 2023 before arresting gain.
Political Prisoner Babak Alipour
Babak Alipour arrested in December 2023 and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. He spent four months in Ward 209 without any clear charges or legal proceedings.
Babak Alipour had previously been arrested and convicted. He, along with his brother, Roozbeh Alipour, detained on November 4, 2018, at the Rasht produce market.

Trial of Vahid Bani Amarian – 75 Days of Detention and Torture
Political prisoner Vahid Bani Amarian also arrested on December 22, 2023, after beaten by intelligence officers. He transferred to Evin Prison’s Ward 209. Vahid Bani Amarian holds a master’s degree in management from Khajeh Nasir University of Technology in Tehran.
He had previously spent more than two years in Evin and Gohardasht prisons. He suffers from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a weakened immune system, and severe respiratory infections.
Political Prisoner Pouya Ghebadi
Political prisoner Pouya Ghebadi, a native of Songhor in Kermanshah Province and an electrical engineering graduate from Sanandaj University, arrested by security forces in Tehran in May 2018. In two separate cases, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to a total of 18 years in prison and exile to Nikshahr, located in Sistan and Baluchistan Province.
