Armin Khodayari; the youngest political prisoner in Lakan Prison.

Armin Khodaiyari was arrested on September 16, 2024, on charges of propaganda against the regime by law enforcement officers in Rasht.

Armin Khodaiyari, born in 2005 in Zanjan, sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment, of which 1 year and 9 months will be enforceable. According to the Iran Human Rights Center, on Sunday, April 10, 2025, he is the youngest political prisoner in the Lakan prison in Rasht, having just turned 20.

Armin Khodaiyari sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment, with 1 year and 9 months enforceable. He was 19 at the time of his arrest and spent 4 days in solitary confinement under interrogation. And beating to coerce a confession against himself. He then transferred to the Misagh ward of Lakan prison.

Armin Khodaiyari had two court sessions in November and December 2024, one in person and one online. Without access to a lawyer and a fair trial, he was convicted by Judge Mehdi Rasakhi in Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court on charges of propaganda against the regime and was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment.

Informed sources told the Iran Human Rights Society that the primary reason for this verdict was his resistance against the interrogators and not bowing to the judge.

The detention of young people and adolescents and their transfer to detention centers. And also, prisons have been continuing for decades under the dictatorship of the Velayat-e Faqih. Young prisoners in this system’s prisons suffer from various abuses and crimes, lacking even the most basic rights. They also exploited by prison authorities, leading to severe psychological harm.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Violation of human rights laws with the detention of Armin Khodaiyari.
The detention of protesters against the current situation in Iran, such as Armin Khodaiyari, violates several articles of international human rights laws. These international laws are explicitly stated in various documents, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Some of the violations of human rights laws in relation to this issue are as follows:

Right to Freedom of Expression and Opinion:

According to Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, everyone has the right to freely express their opinions, which includes the freedom to seek, receive, and disseminate information and ideas without interference from government authorities. The detention of protesters for expressing their opinions is a blatant violation of this right.

Right to Peaceful Assembly:

Article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 21 of the International Covenant emphasize the people’s right to peaceful assembly. Arresting and suppressing peaceful protesters considered a violation of this right.

Prohibition of Torture and Inhumane Treatment:

Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 7 of the International Covenant prohibit torture and inhumane and degrading treatment. Numerous reports exist of torture and mistreatment of arrested protesters in Iran, indicating violations of this provision.

Right to Fair Trial:

According to Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 14 of the International Covenant, everyone has the right to have their case tried fair, public, And by an independent and impartial tribunal. In many cases, protesters in Iran arrested and convicted without access to a lawyer. And also without a fair trial, which violates this right.

Right to Life, Liberty, and Personal Security:


Article 3 of the Universal Declaration states that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and personal security. Arbitrary and unlawful detentions by authorities violate this fundamental right.

Overall, the repression and imprisonment of protesters in Iran constitutes a clear violation of several articles of international human rights documents, and these actions severely criticized by international human rights organizations.
