Accusation of armed robbery and execution in Karaj Central Prison
Another prisoner was executed in Karaj Central Prison on charges of armed robbery
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on the morning of Tuesday, January 10, 2023, a prisoner was executed in Karaj Central Prison on charges of armed robbery. On Sunday, January 8, 2023, Reza Haji, along with 7 other drug suspects, were transferred to solitary cells in Karaj Central Prison.
Among those transferred for execution, two people named Rashid Lawandpour and Peyman Arab were executed on January 8 and 10, 2023. According to the news, 5 other prisoners are still in solitary confinement awaiting execution.
There is no information about their exact Accusation .
On Monday, January 9, a number of families and relatives of prisoners sentenced to death in Tehran started a protest rally in front of the judiciary building.
The families of prisoners sentenced to death in Qezel Hesar prisons and Karaj Central Penitentiary also held rallies. Holding placards with the content “Don’t execute” and chanting slogans, they demanded to stop the execution of their relatives.
Including these executions, at least 36 prisoners were executed in Iran’s prisons within 21 days. One of the charges for which prisoners are sentenced to death is the charge of armed robbery.
It should be noted that at least 623 executions were carried out in Iranian prisons in 2022. And 273 more prisoners have been executed in Iran than last year.
