Mental and physical torture of Afshin Baimani in Asadabad prison of Isfahan after 23 years of imprisonment
Political prisoner Afshin Baimani, a political prisoner sentenced to life, after 23 years of imprisonment, subjected to mental and physical torture in Isfahan’s Asadabad prison.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Friday, January 5, 2024, the officials of Isfahan’s Asadabad prison attempted to extort money from Afshin Baimani, one of the oldest political prisoners. And they extort money from him to send him to medical centers for heart surgery.
Afshin Baimani, a political prisoner, sent to the hospital for medical leave for heart surgery from GHezelHesar prison. On December 21, 2024, he arrested and transferred again to Asadabad prison in Isfahan. This was when he was scheduled for heart surgery.

According to an informed source, Afshin Baimani is currently in Asadabad Mobarake prison, due to heart disease and the need for surgery, he is deprived of medical care. Asadabad prison officials say that sending him to the hospital is conditional to payment.

Afshin Baymani released on medical leave from QezelHesar prison in late November with a bail of 10 billion tomans. Despite needing heart surgery, he still deprived of proper medical care. He detained at his residence during his treatment at the order of the head of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj. And transferred to Asadabad prison in Mobarakeh city, Isfahan province. He currently held in this prison among violent criminals.
Afshin Baimani has suffered from a heart attack since June 2017 due to the poor environment of the prison. He supposed to be operated on in a few days, but he arrested by the judiciary. He had previously undergone cardiac angiography once in 2021 at Amirabad Hospital, Tehran Heart Center.

During a confrontation, Mehdi Baymani, Afshin’s brother, was killed by security forces, but they never handed over his body to his family. Afshin Baymani arrested while trying to help his brother escape, along with his 9-month-old daughter and 3-year-old son.

Afshin spent months under torture and interrogation in cell 209 of Evin Prison. He then sentenced to death on charges of affiliated with the Mujahideen Khalq. This sentence upheld in the appeals court. However, after 6 years, his sentence reduced to life imprisonment. In 2009, he also transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison (Gohardasht). Before that, he held in QezelHesar Prison before sent on furlough.
