Political prisoner Ali Obidavi sentenced to death in Mahshahr Prison
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, political prisoner Ali Obidavi sentenced to death and four years in prison by the Mahshahr Revolutionary Court.
His brother Hossein Obidavi also sentenced to 13 years in prison by the same court.
Ali Obidavi and his brother Hossein accused of attacking the Basij base.
It is said that these two brothers arrested in 2019 on charges of attacking the Basij base in Hamidiyeh city. Both brothers imprisoned in Mahshahr prison. There is no information about their profile and the details of their case.
At the end of January 2023, Seyed Malik Mousavi ( Davrshanas) who is currently incarcerated in Shiban prison in Ahvaz, sentenced to death on charges of “Moharebeh”. Also, his co-accused Abbas Khosrji sentenced to 10 years in prison on the charge of “participating in disturbing public order”.
Why is there execution in Iran?
Historically, execution has been a tool of power and dictatorship to intimidate and subdue people. The dictatorship ruling Iran using the tool of execution for over forty years to create fear. And also establish its permanent rule, because refraining from using the tool of execution and repression means destruction of system. And also Guardianship of Islamic Jurist. 104 countries have abolished the death penalty through referendums.
50 countries have abolished this method of death and 6 countries only use execution during wartime. Currently, only 34 or 36 countries use this inhumane punishment. While Iran ranking second in terms of the number of executions per year among these countries. And first in terms of the proportion of the population executed in the world!
