Arrest at private residence and complete lack of information about the detainee’s situation

Azar Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Union of the Nation Party, faces arrest by IRGC Intelligence in Qarchak. No detention details or charges confirmed officially.

Iran Human Rights Society, Sunday, February 8, 2026 – Azar Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Union of the Nation Party, was arrested today at her residence in Qarchak by judicial agents affiliated with the Intelligence Organization of the IRGC. Her lawyer has stated that there has been no contact or information about her current place of detention.

Arrest at private residence and complete lack of information about the detainee’s situation

According to reports from state-affiliated media, Azar Mansouri was arrested during a raid by judicial agents from the IRGC Intelligence Organization at her home. This arrest has taken place while – according to her lawyer – no official contact or notification has been provided regarding her place of transfer or the reason for the arrest.

Azar Mansouri’s lawyer told the media that not only has the reason for the arrest not been specified, but it is also unclear to which detention center or security institution she has been transferred. Up to this moment, she has had no contact with her family or her lawyer.

Unsubstantiated accusations by state-affiliated media

A media outlet affiliated with security institutions published the news of Azar Mansouri’s arrest and attributed broad, undocumented charges to her. Fars News Agency, affiliated with the IRGC, claimed that the accusations include “targeting national unity,” “taking positions against the Constitution,” “promoting capitulation,” and “establishing secret overthrow mechanisms.”

These accusations have been raised without any public judicial order and without an official explanation from a judicial authority, resembling more of a propaganda framework aimed at legitimizing arbitrary arrests.

Violation of the right to a fair trial and personal freedom in the arrest of Azar Mansouri

The arrest of Azar Mansouri without information about her place of detention and without access to a lawyer constitutes a clear violation of fundamental human rights principles.

  • Violation of the right to liberty and security of person: Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest or exile.
  • Violation of the right to a fair trial: Article 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights – The right to access a lawyer and a competent court must be guaranteed.
  • Violation of the right to contact family: Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners – A detained person should be able to contact family or a lawyer.
  • Violation of the principle of being informed of the reasons for arrest: Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights – Anyone who is arrested shall be informed, at the time of arrest, of the reasons for the arrest.
