Continuation of Deprivation of Masoumeh Yavari from Medical Care and Incompletion of the Treatment Process in Golpayegan Prison
Iran Human Rights Society, Friday, March 27, 2026 – Masoumeh Yavari, a political prisoner held in Golpayegan Prison, despite suffering from multiple illnesses and urgent need for medical treatment, has been deprived of transfer to medical centers outside the prison and her treatment process has remained incomplete. Reports indicate that the physical condition of this prisoner is deteriorating due to infection at the surgical site and the lack of medical care facilities in Golpayegan Prison.
Incompletion of Masoumeh Yavari’s Treatment Process

According to published reports, Masoumeh Yavari underwent hand surgery in early Esfand of last year, but after the start of the war, despite posting a four billion toman bail, her medical leave was cut off and she was forced to return to Golpayegan Prison.
After returning to prison, the surgical site became infected and the prison’s medical assistant has also confirmed this issue. However, despite high fever and poor physical condition, prison officials have prevented her transfer to medical centers outside the prison and her treatment process has remained half-finished.
It is said that the lack of medical care facilities in Golpayegan Prison has caused Masoumeh Yavari’s physical condition to gradually worsen. This is while doctors had previously emphasized the necessity of continuing treatment and medical care after the surgery.
Masoumeh Yavari’s Illnesses and Physical Condition
According to available information, in addition to the infection resulting from the surgery, Masoumeh Yavari suffers from several underlying diseases. Heart disease, vascular occlusion, and severe hypothyroidism are among the illnesses this prisoner is facing.
She had also previously undergone lumbar disc surgery and due to her physical condition, she requires medical care and access to specialized treatment services.
Reports show that the lack of appropriate medical care and continued detention in prison have caused her illnesses to worsen and have placed her physical condition in an unfavorable situation.
Arrest and Conviction of Masoumeh Yavari
Masoumeh Yavari was arrested on 4 September 2023 by agents of the Intelligence Administration at her private home. This arrest was accompanied by a search of the house and confiscation of some of her and her family’s personal belongings.

The court session to review her charges was held on 5 December of the same year in the Revolutionary Court of Golpayegan County and ultimately this prisoner was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
According to the issued verdict, Masoumeh Yavari was sentenced to 7 years in prison on the charge of “destruction of public property,” to 5 years in prison on the charge of “membership in the Mujahedin-e Khalq,” and to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.” This verdict was issued by the branch of the Golpayegan Revolutionary Court and notified to her.
Masoumeh Yavari, born in 1978, is a housewife and mother of two children and has previously had a history of arrest and conviction due to her activities.
Lack of Medical Care Facilities in Golpayegan Prison
Reports indicate that Golpayegan Prison does not have specialized medical facilities for caring for prisoners’ conditions and prisoners who need specialized treatment must be transferred to medical centers outside the prison.
However, in the case of Masoumeh Yavari, despite confirmation of infection at the surgical site and high fever, her transfer to a hospital outside the prison has not taken place.
Continuation of this situation has caused Masoumeh Yavari’s treatment process to remain incomplete and her illnesses to remain without specialized care. This issue has created concerns about the health status of this prisoner.
Human Rights Violations in Masoumeh Yavari’s Case

Deprivation of access to treatment services, prevention of transfer to medical centers, and incompletion of the treatment process of a sick prisoner can conflict with the fundamental principles of human rights. According to laws and regulations related to prisoners’ rights, prison officials are obligated to provide prisoners with access to specialized treatment services if needed.
- Violation of the Right to Health and Access to Treatment – Article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Every individual has the right to enjoy the highest attainable standards of physical and mental health and depriving a prisoner of treatment can be considered a violation of this right.
- Violation of the Right to Liberty and Personal Security – Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Detaining a sick prisoner without medical care and in conditions where her health is in danger can conflict with the right to personal security.
- Violation of the Prohibition of Inhuman Treatment – Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Depriving a sick prisoner of treatment and keeping her in conditions that cause her illness to worsen can be regarded as an example of inhuman or degrading treatment.
Concerns about Masoumeh Yavari’s Health Status
With the continuation of this situation, concerns about Masoumeh Yavari’s health have increased. Sources close to this prisoner’s family say that continuing to keep her in prison without medical care can have irreparable consequences for her health.
In a situation where Masoumeh Yavari’s treatment process has remained incomplete and her illnesses require specialized care, her family and relatives have demanded the immediate transfer of this prisoner to medical centers and the continuation of her treatment process.
