Reports indicate closed halls, severe shortage of facilities, and increased control over prisoners simultaneously with wartime conditions.
Iran Human Rights Society, Sunday 12 April 2026 – Reports received from Evin Prison, especially Ward 7, show that with the continuation of wartime conditions, security pressures on prisoners have increased significantly. Closed halls, restrictions on movement, reduction in the quality of food, and hygiene problems have brought the situation of this prison to a concerning stage.
Intensification of security control in Evin Prison simultaneously with the war
According to available information, with the start of the war and the increase in regional tensions, the level of control and supervision over prisoners in Evin Prison has noticeably increased. The atmosphere dominating the prison has been described as extremely security-oriented and the movement of prisoners has been reduced to a minimum.
Reports indicate that the halls of Ward 7 are kept closed for most hours and prisoners do not have the possibility of leaving the halls. These restrictions have caused a reduction in movement, an increase in psychological pressure, and an intensification of the feeling of isolation among prisoners.
Closed halls and severe restriction on the movement of prisoners
One of the most important changes in Evin Prison is the continuous closure of the halls. According to sources, prisoners in Ward 7 do not have permission for free exit from the halls and this situation has intensified in recent weeks.
These restrictions have not only affected the daily activities of prisoners, but have also disrupted intra-ward communications and access to limited facilities. The created security atmosphere has brought about conditions similar to forced quarantine in this ward.
Severe reduction in the quality and quantity of food in Ward 7 of Evin Prison
Reports show that the nutrition situation in Evin Prison, especially in Ward 7, has dropped dramatically. The quality and quantity of food is at a low level and this issue has become one of the main problems of the prisoners.
According to these reports, on many nights only one simple meal such as lentil soup is distributed, the share of each prisoner from which is about four spoons. The repetition of this situation and the limited amount of food has faced the nutritional conditions of the prisoners with a serious challenge.
Disruption in the supply of food items and the unsuitable situation of the prison store
The situation of the store in Ward 7 has also been raised as one of the other main problems. Reports indicate that in the past two months, items such as dairy products, protein materials, and fruits have rarely entered the store.
The lack of regular access to these items has eliminated the possibility of compensating for food shortages for the prisoners and has imposed additional pressure on their nutritional situation. Also, the uncertainty of the time of supply of these items has made the situation more complicated.
Expansion of hygiene problems and the spread of bedbugs in the wards
Alongside nutritional problems, the hygiene situation of Evin Prison has also been reported as concerning. One of the most important issues is the spread of bedbugs in the prison halls.
According to received information, these insects are observed in the wards even in the cold season and have caused continuous harassment to the prisoners. This situation, along with the unpleasant smell of sewage and the shortage of hygiene facilities, has made living conditions in the prison more difficult.
Non-responsiveness of officials to the problems of prisoners
Despite the increase in problems in Evin Prison, reports indicate that prison officials have not provided a clear response to this situation. Shortage of facilities, unsuitable nutrition situation, and hygiene problems have remained without effective handling.
The lack of responsiveness and the absence of corrective actions have increased concerns about the continuation of this situation and have placed the prisoners in an uncertain state.
Ward 7 of Evin Prison; the main center of pressures
Among the various wards of Evin Prison, Ward 7 has been introduced as one of the sections that experiences the most pressures. Reports show that the restrictions and problems in this ward are more severe compared to other sections.
Closed halls, shortage of food items, unsuitable hygiene situation, and the security atmosphere are all seen more prominently in this ward. This issue has caused Ward 7 to become one of the critical points in Evin Prison.
