December 2, 2025
in Human Rights
Fatemeh Ziaei, 68-year-old Iranian political prisoner with MS, faces critical health crisis in Qarchak Prison. Agents rearrested her despite warnings. Demand urgent release now.

Chronic illnesses and direct threats to her life

Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s health plummets in Evin Prison due to MS and neglect. Authorities ignore medical pleas. This political prisoner’s life hangs in balance—demand her release

Iran Human Rights Society, Monday, December 1, 2025– Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s health crisis escalates dramatically. Recent weeks bring sharp declines for this veteran political prisoner. She battles advanced multiple sclerosis (MS) and prison complications. Informed sources report severe weakness, mobility issues, constant pain, and breathing troubles. The Iranian regime holds her in Evin Prison without proper care. This denial threatens her life directly. Over four decades, arrests and detentions have marked her story. She endured nearly 14 years behind bars. Now, at 68, she risks early death from neglect. Global advocates urge immediate action. Families and rights groups protest loudly. However, officials ignore urgent warnings. Therefore, international pressure must mount to save her.

Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s Dire Health Decline in Evin Prison

Reports from Evin Prison paint a grim picture. Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s condition hits unprecedented lows. She suffers as a long-time political prisoner from the 1960s. Authorities arrested her repeatedly over 40 years. She spent almost 14 years in various facilities. Now, sources call her state “critical.” Prison life without medical access endangers her survival. She experiences profound physical exhaustion. Mobility fails her daily. Pain grips her constantly. Respiratory symptoms worsen hourly. These stem from progressing MS and detention harms. Doctors stress the peril. Even brief incarceration proves deadly. Yet, authorities escalate restrictions instead of aiding her.

40 Days of Agony in Nopo Detention Without Care

Fatemeh Ziaei Azad

Fatemeh Ziaei Azad endured 40 harrowing days in Nopo detention center. Officials denied her any medical services there. Guards transferred her to Evin only after this ordeal. During those weeks, chronic illnesses battered her. She faced repeated physical assaults. Detention staff refused hospital transfers outright. “Houryeh,” as loved ones call her, collapsed under the strain. This isolation amplified her MS symptoms. Breathing grew labored. Pain intensified without relief. Families begged for intervention. However, pleas fell on deaf ears. Therefore, her transfer to Evin came too late. Now, she fights for every breath in worse shape.

Re-Arrest Defies Medical Warnings and Legal Relief

Doctors warned repeatedly about Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s fragility. She copes with advanced MS, latent pulmonary tuberculosis, and urinary infections. These stem from years of health battles. On January 20, 2024, forensic experts ruled her unfit for prison. They declared she “could not bear imprisonment.” Authorities released her then. She paid 300 million tomans to redeem her remaining sentence. Treating physicians emphasized the risks. Continued detention could kill her swiftly. Yet, on August 6, 2025, intelligence agents struck at midnight. They raided her Tehran home without a warrant. Officers seized belongings and ransacked the place. They offered no arrest explanation. Her family decried the brutality. This re-arrest shattered her fragile recovery. Stress alone could destroy her, experts say. Furthermore, it mocks prior medical exemptions.

Critical Decline Pushes Fatemeh Ziaei Azad Toward Early Death

Family members witness Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s rapid downfall. Recent weeks deliver brutal blows. MS advances unchecked in prison. Complications from confinement pile on. She battles severe weakness that saps her strength. Mobility crumbles; she struggles to move. Constant pain torments her body. Respiratory issues choke her breaths. A close source reveals the truth bluntly. “Any more neglect spells early death,” the source states. Doctors hammered home the dangers. Short prison stints prove fatal for her. However, care remains absent. Pressures mount instead. Restrictions tighten daily. Families plead for hospital access. Officials stall or ignore them. Therefore, her life teeters on the edge. Irreparable harm looms large.

Judicial Limbo Rejects Lawyer’s Urgent Defense for Release

Ambiguity clouds Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s court process. On October 12, 2025, guards moved her to Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court. Judge Abolghasem Salavati presided over the session. Her lawyer fought fiercely. He presented the old forensic report. He showed proof of the 300 million toman payment. The lawyer demanded legal suspension of proceedings. He urged application of health exemption laws. Yet, post-hearing fog descends. Legal insiders report chaos. The lawyer visited the branch multiple times. Officials barred his entry each time. Defenses go unheard. The case stalls in limbo. No progress emerges. This delay endangers her further. Therefore, justice twists into torment.

Midnight Raid Breaches Laws and Exacerbates Health Risks

A family insider details the arrest’s illegality. “The nighttime raid lacks any judicial warrant,” the source explains. It violates Iran’s own regulations blatantly. Agents burst in while she treated chronic diseases. Doctors had stressed vulnerability. Stress or harsh conditions could ruin her health. Yet, officers ignored all cautions. They dragged her away mid-recovery. Families demanded explanations. None came. Belongings vanished into agents’ hands. The home search felt invasive. Now, repeated hospital transfer requests languish. Authorities answer with silence. Or they delay on purpose. This pattern fuels outrage. However, it sustains her suffering. Therefore, her case screams for global scrutiny.

Human Rights Alarms Ring Over Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s Plight

Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s ordeal spotlights Iran’s prisoner treatment failuresExperts now warn of permanent damage. Continued lockup without care invites disaster. Security and judicial bodies bear full blame. Families rally for her freedom. However, regime silence persists. This neglect forms a pattern. It targets dissidents systematically. Therefore, the world must respond. Pressure builds for her urgent release. Her story demands headlines everywhere.

About political prisoner Fatemeh Ziaei

Fatemeh Ziaei (Houryeh), born in 1955, is a political science graduate and resident of Tehran. She is the mother of two children and a wife who has spent a large part of her life in the shadow of arrests and deprivations. Over the past decades, she has been arrested and tried several times for her political and civic activities.

She was last released on temporary sick leave in September 2023 due to her deteriorating health and multiple illnesses. This release had provided her with an opportunity to pursue her necessary medical treatment, but her re-arrest effectively halted this path. She was released from Evin Prison again on January 29, 2024, but was re-arrested less than 7 months after her release.

Chronic Diseases Threaten Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s Survival Daily

Fatemeh Ziaei Azad confronts a storm of grave illnesses. Advanced MS ravages her nervous system. A tuberculosis-like lung infection festers untreated. Chronic bladder issues plague her. Liver problems compound the chaos. Doctors issue stark warnings. Prison continuation invites irreversible decline. Medical experts highlight the lung threat. Without hospital-level care, death stalks close. Her MS sparks severe mobility loss. She requires aid to walk now. Simple tasks overwhelm her. Interruptions in advanced MS therapy spell disaster. Permanent disability awaits. Breathing falters amid infections. Pain echoes without cease. Families witness the horror. However, access stays blocked. Therefore, each day risks the unthinkable.

Blatant Human Rights Breaches in Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s Case

Fatemeh Ziaei Azad’s saga exposes Iran’s rights violations starkly. It defies global standards Iran pledged to uphold. Consider key breaches head-on.

Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights safeguards life. Denying vital treatments endangers her directly. Agents strip away her survival tools.

Article 7 bans torture and cruel acts. Unsanitary cells and drug shortages equate to slow agony. Prison conditions mock humanity.

Article 10 mandates humane prisoner treatment. Cramped spaces and medical voids shatter this rule. Dignity evaporates in the dark.

Nelson Mandela Rules insist on equal health access. Community standards apply inside bars. Ziaei’s denial shatters this entirely.

The fate of Fatemeh Ziaei is not only an individual case but also a symbol of the ruling dictatorship’s treatment of sick political prisoners. Insistence on keeping her in conditions where death is a possibility at any moment indicates the use of “silent death” as a tool to eliminate opponents.
