Hadi Heydari, 22, Has Been Detained for Nearly a Year Without a Trial Date or Clear Charges
Iran Human Rights Society, Wednesday, February 11, 2025. Political prisoner Hadi Heydari has gone on a hunger strike in protest against the lack of medical attention. Heydari incarcerated for nearly a year in Ward 8 of Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz. He suffers from kidney stones, yet prison authorities have deprived him of medical care, effectively subjecting him to indirect torture.
The Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz has failed to review his case despite the prolonged detention. And has not scheduled a trial date.
Hadi Heydari, 22, arrested by security forces nearly a year ago. However, no clear information is available regarding the charges against him or the timing of his trial.
His hunger strike is a protest against his indefinite detention and the denial of medical care.

Denial of Medical Care to Hadi Heydari as a Violation of Human Rights
The deprivation of medical care for Hadi Heydari constitutes a violation of several fundamental principles of international human rights law. This act contradicts the following provisions:
Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: This article explicitly states that no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment. The denial of medical care can consider a form of inhuman and degrading treatment.
Article 10 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: This article emphasizes that all people deprived of their liberty must treated with humanity and with respect for their inherent dignity. Denying medical care is a direct violation of this provision.
The United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Nelson Mandela Rules): These rules explicitly state that prisoners must have access to proper medical services and that prison healthcare conditions must meet adequate standards.
The denial of medical services condemned in various human rights documents as a form of torture or inhuman treatment and is considered a violation of human dignity.
