Mansour Salamat, a Kurdish citizen killed under torture by security agents in Urmia
Security agents in Urmia killed a Kurdish citizen named Mansour Salamat under torture and handed over his body to his family on Thursday.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, a Kurdish citizen from Urmia named Mansour Salamat killed under the torture of security agents. Mansour Salamat was a native of Pesan village, Tergor region of Urmia. He previously arrested by the security forces on the charge of possessing a hunting weapon. After being transferred to “Nine Pele” Detention Center in Urmia, he subjected to the most severe physical and mental tortures.
The security agents announced the cause of his death as a heart attack. According to Mansour’s relatives, he was in perfect health before his arrest. The cause of his death can only be due to the severity of the tortures applied to him.

The security agencies in Urmia called his family on the evening of Wednesday, December 27 and announced that he had a heart attack and died due to anxiety and stress.
These institutions handed over the body of Mansour Salamat to his family on the morning of Thursday, December 28, 2023, on the condition that the news is not disclosed to the media. His family also buried the body in his native village.
Applying brutal tortures to obtain forced confessions
Exercising severe physical and mental torture on the accused is one of the tricks of the government agents. With these measures, they force the accused to confess against himself or herself. The agents put the same confessions as documents in the accused’s case and present them to the court.
Javaed Rahman, the special rapporteur of the United Nations for monitoring the human rights situation in Iran, in his report published on October 24, 2023, mentioned brutal tortures in government prisons.
In this report, he said about the violent suppression of protests in Iran and the killing and injuring of protesters. He also mentioned the arbitrary arrests and torture of prisoners and long prison terms in order to put pressure on the prisoners.
