Mohammad Javad Vafai Thani is one of the political prisoners and his life is in danger.
Seyed Mohammad Javad Thani, 27 years old, is the boxing champion of Mashhad schools. He arrested by the IRGC in March 2019, following the November 2019 protests. He imprisoned for 65 days under physical and mental torture.
On Sunday, January 9, 2022, Dr. Babak Paknia, a lawyer, announced on his official page the death sentence for political prisoner Seyed Mohammad Javad Vafai Thani.
He sentenced to death by Judge Mansouri in Branch 4 of Mashhad Revolutionary Court on the charge of “corruption on earth” through “deliberate incitement and destruction of certain places, including the government penitentiary building”.
In December 2022, his death sentence overturned by the ninth branch of the Supreme Court and sent to the parallel branch for retrial.
On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, judge in charge of the prison informed the political prisoner Mohammad Javad Vafai Thani that his death sentence has been decided. An hour later, he was called on the prison’s loudspeaker, and then he was taken to an unknown place.
On Monday, July 24, 2023. The second branch of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court again sentenced political prisoner Mohammad Javad Vafai Thani to death.
His lawyer announced that he will file the appeal bill again during the legal deadline.
