Iran Human Rights Organization, Tuesday, July 8, 2025 –The campaign honors the 1999 student uprising, a spark for later protests in 2009, 2017, 2019, and 2022. These movements fuel the fight for freedom. However, Iran’s regime has executed at least 24 people since July 2025 began, with 428 executions this year alone. Such numbers reveal a brutal crackdown on dissent. The campaign urges the world to reject this violence and defend the right to life.
State Violence and Suppression in Baluchistan
Recent state violence, including the killing of two youths in Hamedan and an attack on women in Gunich, Khash, highlights the regime’s fear of protests. These acts expose a misogynistic system desperate to silence dissent. Furthermore, UN Special Rapporteur Mai Sato warned on July 4, 2025, about the regime’s use of regional conflicts to target minorities and political opponents. The campaign demands accountability for these violations.
Unjust Death Sentences for Kurdish Prisoners
The campaign strongly condemns the 12 death sentences issued to five Kurdish political prisoners—Rezgar Bigzadeh-Babamiri, Pejman Soltani, Soran Qasemi, Kaveh Salehi, and Teyfour Salimi-Babamiri—arrested during the 2022 uprising. These rulings, lacking fair trials, violate international law. For instance, Pejman Soltani faces execution for “premeditated murder,” while others endure torture-tainted charges like “armed rebellion.” The campaign calls for these sentences to be overturned.
