Siamak Amini suffers from Behcet’s syndrome, an inflammatory and autoimmune disease. Despite his inability to endure the harsh conditions of prison, judicial authorities have summoned him to serve his sentence.

Violation of Global Human Rights Laws by Imprisoning Patients

Imprisoning patients, especially those suffering from severe illnesses, is a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This practice not only contradicts humanitarian and ethical principles but also contravenes numerous articles of this charter.

Some of the most important articles that violated by this practice include:

Right to Life (Article 3): This article explicitly states that everyone has the right to life. Imprisoning a patient, especially in conditions where there is no access to appropriate medical care, violates this fundamental right.

Prohibition of Torture and Inhuman Treatment (Article 5): This article prohibits any form of torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment. Imprisoning a patient in unsuitable conditions without access to medical care can be considered a form of torture or inhuman treatment.

Principle of Equality (Article 7): This article states that all are equal before the law and entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. Imprisoning a patient because of their illness constitutes a form of discrimination.
