According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Thursday, April 18, 2024, the trial session of the rapper Tomaj Salehi was held. In this meeting, according to his lawyer, 2 new charges were added to his previous charges. The two additional charges are “gathering and collusion” and “assisting in bribery”. Defense lawyer Tomaj Salehi has written regarding the latest situation of his court:
“Today, Thursday, April 18th, the trial of Mr. Tomaj Salehi related to case 2022 held in the first branch of Isfahan Revolutionary Court. In this case, the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan issued a verdict in July last year, which was overturned in the Supreme Court of the country after an appeal and returned to the District Court for consideration.
Previously, on Sunday, the 21st of January 2024, an interrogation session held against him in the Isfahan Revolution Courthouse. Tomaj Salehi is accused of being a deputy in a crime, which could lead to a serious sentence, including execution. This investigation session and investigation of Tomaj Salehi’s accusation was done without prior notice. And also, without the presence of his defense lawyer.

Release and arresting again in less than 15 days
Tomaj Salehi is a protest rapper. He was arrested on September 12, 2021, in Shahin Shahr, Isfahan, and released on September 21, 2021, with bail (fine and six months of imprisonment suspended for one year). Then he was accused in this case of “propaganda against the regime” and “insulting the leadership”.
He was arrested again on October 30, 2022, in Borujen city of Chahar Mahal Bakhtiari province, but he was released from prison after one year on November 18, 2023. He arrested again on November 30 due to the release of a protest video by the security forces.
Tomaj Salehi is a protest rapper and most of his works are against religious tyranny. During the 2022 nationwide protests, he was present in the street with the protesting people and covered the issue of protests in Iran on his social media pages.
