Execution of three prisoners in Urmia.Three drug-related prisoners were executed in Urmia prison.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Friday, June 9, 2023, three prisoners named Jafar Mohammadpour and Ghabad Farhadi were executed in Urmia prison on charges related to drugs.
43-year-old Jafar Mohammadpour, from Sardasht, and another prisoner, Ghabad Farhadi, was from Kermanshah. The names and details of the other prisoners are not known.
These three prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement yesterday to execute the death sentence. In addition, a female prisoner was also transferred to execute the death sentence.
It should be noted that since the beginning of the new year, the judiciary of Velayat Faqih has started mass execution of prisoners sentenced to death. Since the beginning of the Iranian year 1402, at least 180 prisoners have been executed.

Many executions are conducted without fair trials, based on forced confessions extracted under torture. The death penalty is frequently used as a tool to suppress political dissidents, human rights activists, and protesters.
The Iranian government continues to violate fundamental human rights, including freedom of speech, assembly, and due process. Arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and long prison sentences for peaceful activists are common. Political prisoners and those accused of vague charges such as “enmity against God” (Moharebeh) or “corruption on earth” (Efsad-e-Fil-Arz) face the death penalty without proper legal defense.
These actions violate international agreements such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), to which Iran is a signatory. The lack of judicial transparency and systematic suppression of dissent create a climate of fear and oppression.
