Ali Ajarlou; Five Months of No News and Concern from Security Case-Building in Chubindar Prison of Qazvin

Ali Ajarlou, a citizen from Alvand Qazvin, has been held in Chubindar Prison for about five months; his family says he is in conditions of absolute lack of news and security institutions with threats and case-building are trying to raise heavy charges against him

Iran Human Rights Society, Sunday May 24, 2026- Ali Ajarlou, a 35-year-old citizen from Alvand city of Qazvin province, has been imprisoned in Chubindar Prison of Qazvin for about five months and still no clear information about the status of his case and his detention conditions has been published. Ali Ajarlou’s family say he is deprived of visits and effective communication with the family and security institutions are trying to increase pressure on him by raising heavy security charges. Human rights activists warn that in many security cases, lack of sufficient documentation is compensated by pressure and torture to obtain forced confessions.

Arrest of Ali Ajarlou after the killing of his nephew

Ali Ajarlou

Ali Ajarlou, father of one child and owner of “Ali Moshti” ice cream shop in Alvand city of Qazvin, was arrested after the killing of his nephew, Mohammad Hossein Khalaj, during the protests of 2025-2026.

According to reports, Mohammad Hossein Khalaj on January 8, 2026 in front of Ali Ajarlou’s ice cream shop was targeted by shooting of government forces and lost his life. After this incident, security forces arrested Ali Ajarlou and also sealed his place of business.

Ali Ajarlou’s family say his arrest took place in conditions where the family was still in shock from the killing of Mohammad Hossein Khalaj and security pressures began immediately after the ceremonies and protest gatherings.

Five months of absolute lack of news in Chubindar Prison

Ali Ajarlou is currently being held in Chubindar Prison of Qazvin; a prison that human rights activists have repeatedly warned about the inappropriate conditions of holding prisoners in it. According to the family report, Ali Ajarlou is in conditions of absolute lack of news and has been deprived of in-person visits and effective communication with the family.

His family say that during the past months, numerous efforts to obtain information about the status of Ali Ajarlou’s case and detention conditions have faced vague and threatening responses from judicial and security officials.

Human rights activists emphasize that cutting off the prisoner’s communication with the family and long-term detention in unknown conditions is one of the methods of psychological pressure on detainees and their families.

Mohammad Hossein Khalaj

Threatening the family and the possibility of security case-building

Ali Ajarlou’s family say that when referring to the prosecutor’s office, they faced direct threats from security officials. According to his close ones, the agents announced that in Ali Ajarlou’s shop “knife and some other items” were found and it is possible that on this basis heavy charges will be raised against him.

Also, the family has been warned that it is possible that charges such as “leading the protests” or “interfering in the killing of forces affiliated with Basij” will be attributed to Ali Ajarlou.

Human rights activists say that using general and security charges against those arrested in protests has become a common procedure in political cases. According to these activists, many arrested citizens without clear evidence face charges that can prepare the ground for issuing heavy sentences.

Concern about forced confessions and torture

Human rights activists have warned that in many security cases, when security and judicial institutions do not have sufficient evidence, detainees are placed under severe pressure for forced confessions.

According to these activists, long-term detention in conditions of lack of news, deprivation of a lawyer and psychological pressure are among the methods used to break the resistance of prisoners.

Ali Ajarlou’s family have also expressed concern about his physical and mental health and say that continuing absolute lack of news about his status has increased concerns about the possibility of applying pressure and torture.

Human rights activists emphasize that lack of free access to a lawyer and lack of transparency in the judicial process provide the ground for widespread violation of the rights of detainees.

Continuation of pressure on families of protest martyrs

Ali Ajarlou’s case has been raised in conditions where in recent years many families of protest martyrs have also faced security and judicial pressures.

Civil activists say the government tries to prevent information dissemination and follow-up of cases by arresting, summoning or threatening members of the families of protest victims. According to these activists, pressure on Ali Ajarlou’s family after the killing of Mohammad Hossein Khalaj is part of this same trend of suppression and creating an atmosphere of fear among the families of protesters.

Human rights violation; lack of news, security pressure and threat of case-building

Ali Ajarlou’s case has been described by human rights activists as an example of widespread violation of the rights of detainees in protests.

Violated articles:

  • Violation of the right to freedom and personal security – Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:Long-term detention of Ali Ajarlou in conditions of lack of news and without judicial transparency is an example of arbitrary arrest.
  • Violation of the right to fair trial – Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:Ambiguity in the trial process and the possibility of security case-building violate the principles of fair trial.
  • Violation of the prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment – Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:Psychological pressure, deprivation of communication with family and the possibility of applying pressure for forced confession are examples of inhuman and degrading treatment.
  • Violation of the right to access to a lawyer and effective defense – Fundamental principles of fair trial:Depriving detainees of free access to an independent lawyer takes away the possibility of effective defense from them.
