Security forces arrest three citizens in Behbahan after protest call. Nationwide demonstrations expand against economic hardship in early 2026.
Iran Human Rights Society, Thursday, January 1, 2026 – Security forces arrested four citizens in Behbahan last night. The action came after a public call for a gathering. Authorities identified the detainees as Soltan Imamkhah, Amir Mehdi Razm, Abolfazl Jafsh, and Abolfazl Ashnoud. Officials released Soltan Imamkhah soon after detention. The remaining three people face unknown fates. No one knows their current location or charges yet.
Protests Spread Across Iranian Cities
Demonstrations grow stronger every day in Iran. On December 30, 2025, protests reached new levels. Students and ordinary citizens joined the movement. Crowds gathered in Tehran, Isfahan, and Hamedan. People demand solutions to inflation and high prices. They also seek better living conditions now. Security forces tried to disperse several gatherings.

Economic Hardship Fuels Public Anger
Rising prices create serious problems for families. Inflation affects daily life in every city. Citizens refuse to accept the current situation. Protests show deep discontent with officials. Many social groups now support the cause actively. This wave marks one of the largest movements recently.
Violation of the Rights of Detainees
Arresting individuals for participating in or calling for peaceful gatherings constitutes a clear case of arbitrary detention and a violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.
- Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest or detention.
- Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: The right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly must be guaranteed.
- Article 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Everyone has the right to a fair trial and access to a lawyer.
Failure to provide information about the location of detention and the charges, restricting access to a lawyer, and any possible pressure represent a clear violation of these international legal provisions and standards.
Demand for Transparency and Justice
Civil activists call for clear information now. They want independent lawyers for every detainee. Quick updates reduce security pressure effectively. Respecting rights prevents further escalation. Families deserve immediate answers about loved ones. Transparency builds trust between people and officials.
Urgency of Promptly Publicizing Arrests
In this regard, citizens and civil activists emphasize the necessity of respecting the rights of detainees and providing transparent information to families. Swift publication of arrest news, accurate documentation of time and place, and ensuring access to independent legal counsel can play an important role in reducing security pressure and protecting citizens’ rights.
The arrest of citizens following peaceful calls serves as an example of security pressure and violation of citizens’ rights. While protests in Iran have spread and various segments of society have joined them, the international community and human rights organizations stress the necessity of respecting fundamental freedoms and guaranteeing the safety of detainees.
