A prisoner accused of murder was executed in Minab prison. According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on the first Saturday, 23, September 2023, the Mizan website affiliated with the judiciary announced the execution of a prisoner in Minab prison.
The news agency quoted the chief justice of Hormozgan province as saying that the prisoner had killed Saeed Moridi, the head of the anti-narcotics police in Rudan.
Mojtaba Ghahramani announced the prisoner’s charges as “armed drug trafficking leading to police murder” and “corruption on earth” without mentioning his name.
Saeed Moridi killed in a clash in March 2023. In recent months, the killing of security and law enforcement forces in Iranian cities has increased. And several oppressive forces are killed daily by unknown individuals who have already been suppressed by those oppressors. The execution in Minab prison is the first execution announced by official Iranian media in this month . Many executions not announced in official government media and referred to as secret executions.
Why is there execution in Iran?
Historically, execution has been a tool of power and dictatorship to intimidate and subdue people. The dictatorship ruling Iran has been using the tool of execution for over forty years to create fear and establish its permanent rule. Because refraining from using the tool of execution and repression means the destruction of the system of the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist. 104 countries have abolished the death penalty through referendums.
50 countries have abolished this method of death and 6 countries only use execution during wartime. Currently, only 34 or 36 countries use this inhumane punishment. Iran ranking second in terms of the number of executions per year among these countries. And the first in terms of the proportion of the population executed in the world!
