Prisoner of conscience and political of Sunni Ghasem Abesteh transferred to solitary confinement of Ghezelhesar Prison for execution
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Tuesday, October 31th, 2023. Ghasem Abesteh, a Sunni political prisoner, transferred to a solitary cell in Ghezelhesar prison in Karaj for execution after enduring 14 years of imprisonment.
According to a reliable source, his execution scheduled for Sunday, October, 30th, 2023. The source adds: “In recent months, he transferred twice to a solitary cell for execution. And after a few days of mental and psychological torture, he returned to the public ward. ” Ghasem Abesteh is accused and prosecuted by the Ministry of Intelligence for the murder of Mamoosta Abdulrahim Tina.
He arrested along with six other Sunni prisoners. Davoud Abdollahi, Farhad Salimi, Anvar Khezri, Khosrow Besharat, Kamran Sheikhe and also Ayoub Karimi in 2009 and currently in uncertainty.
The other charges announced as “acting against national security”, “propaganda against the state”. And also, “membership in Salafi groups”, “corruption on earth” and “Moharebeh (Godwar)”.
“The seven prisoners sentenced to death in March 2016 by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Moghiseh. This overturned in the Supreme Court by Judge Razini. They charged with acting against national security, propaganda against the regime, membership in Salafi groups, corruption on earth and moharebeh (waging war against God).”
The prisoners denied participation in coercive campaigns, saying they arrested solely for their beliefs and activities such as attending religious meetings and distributing religious material.
Psychological and physical torture during interrogation
According to the prisoners, they subjected to psychological and physical torture during interrogation to confess to charges they did not commit.
During 14 years of uncertainty, Ghasem Abesteh diagnosed with thyroid cancer in prison and passed through difficult conditions. Along with a number of other Sunni prisoners, he transferred to Ghezelhesar Prison on August 1, 2023, in line with the policy of evacuating Gohardasht Prison.
