There has been a significant increase in executions of prisoners in October. The number of prisoners executed in the middle of the month has reached at least 73 prisoners.
Increase in Executions in October
According to a report by the Iran Human Rights Center, on Thursday, October 11, 2051, six prisoners executed in Shiraz and GhezelHesar prisons. On the morning of Tuesday, October 9, 2024, three prisoners executed in Shiraz Central Prison. The three prisoners are Asghar Ghorbani, Yasin Amiri, and Soheil Habibollahi.
Yasin Amiri was from Susangerd and executed two years ago on drug-related charges. The increase in executions in Iran has provoked many domestic and foreign protests from the people and human rights institutions.
Increase in Executions in GhezelHesar to 6 Prisoners
The number of prisoners executed on Wednesday, October 18, 2024, in GhezelHesar prison has reached six. Previously, the Iran Human Rights Center had published the names of three prisoners: Ahmad Narouei, Mohammad Eshaqzahi, and Kamran Saghaei (Saeed Safaei).
One of the prisoners executed that day was Arman Hedayati. He arrested and sentenced to death on charges of murder. According to Rokna, two of the executed prisoners were Afghan nationals. Their charge was rape.
Execution of 4 Prisoners in GhezelHesar and Zahedan Prisons
At dawn on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, four prisoners, including a juvenile offender, executed in Ghezel Hesar and Zahedan prisons. According to Hal-Vash, the names of these prisoners are Ahmad Narouei, Mohammad Es’haqzahi, Saeed Safaei, and Mehdi Barahouei.
Ahmad Narouei, Mohammad Es’haqzahi, and Kamran Saghaei (Saeed Safaei) executed in Ghezel Hesar prison, and Mehdi Barahouei executed in Zahedan Central Prison.
Ahmad Narouei, 33 years old, son of Anour, Mohammad Es’haqzahi, 31 years old, son of Yousef, and Saeed Safaei were charged with drug-related offenses. The juvenile offender, Mehdi Barahouei, 21 years old, who was 17 at the time of the crime, charged with murder.
Execution of a Prisoner in Ardabil Prison

This woman named Leila Ghaemi. She was from Tehran and the mother of one child. And arrested eight years ago on charges of murder and sentenced to death. She spent most of her sentence in Qarchak Varamin Prison.
Execution of 3 Prisoners, Including a Young Girl, in Ahar, Gonbad Kavous, and Bam

Habibollah Mohammadzahi, 47 years old, son of Rahmatollah, married and the father of six children. He was from and resided in the village of Amadeh, a suburb of Mirjaveh. His family went to Bam Prison yesterday for a final visit, but the prison authorities did not allow the visit.
Execution of a Young Girl in Ahar
At dawn on Tuesday, October 2, 2024, a young girl was executed in Ahar Prison. This young girl was named Akhtar Ghorbanlou and was a victim of child marriage. She previously arrested on charges of murder and sentenced to death.

Execution of Two Prisoners in Gorgan Prison
At dawn on Thursday, October 3, 2024, two prisoners executed in Gorgan Prison. The identities of these two prisoners are Hamed Hariri, 35 years old, and Reza Soleimanzadeh, 29 years old. These two prisoners arrested on separate charges of murder and sentenced to death.
Increase in Executions
Contradiction of the Death Penalty with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as an important international document, guarantees the fundamental and basic rights of all human beings without considering race, color, sex, language, religion, political opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or any other status.
Article 3 of this declaration explicitly states: “Everyone has the right to life.” This right cannot be deprived except by a court ruling for a crime that considers a crime under the law.
The death penalty, as the highest punishment, directly contradicts this article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights because:
Right to Life: The right to life considered a fundamental and inalienable right. The death penalty deprives this right.
Irreversibility: Once the death penalty is carried out, there is no possibility of correcting judicial errors.
Torture and Inhumane Treatment: Some methods of carrying out the death penalty are considered torture and inhumane treatment, which contradicts the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The increase in executions in Iran has provoked many domestic and foreign protests from the people and human rights institutions.
