Message from Two Imprisoned Political Elites, Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi, on the Anniversary of the 2022 Nationwide Protests and the Start of the Academic Year
In a message from two imprisoned political elites, Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi, they referenced the remarks made by the president (Pezeshkian), stating: “Pezeshkian deceitfully claimed that students have the right to protest! But he didn’t say what happens to them after they do!”
According to the Iranian Human Rights Center, on Monday, September 16, 2024, these two imprisoned political elites, Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi, sent a message to the people of Iran on the second anniversary of the 2022 nationwide protests and the start of the new academic year. In their message, they addressed Pezeshkian’s comments:
“New president (Pezeshkian) deceitfully claimed that students have the right to protest! But he didn’t mention what happens to them afterward! Yes, we do have this right, whether he admits it hypocritically or not. This right, the most fundamental of all rights—the right to the people’s sovereignty and democracy based on a republic—is what we will achieve alongside the people at any cost.”
Here is the full text of the message from these two imprisoned political elites, Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi:
“On the verge of the new academic year, which is intertwined with bloody days but also brilliant battles, we send a message to our fellow classmates, from universities to the streets, to all those who believe that we must stay and reclaim what is ours, to those who turned the streets into universities of resistance, to those who have been prevented from stepping into their second home (school and university), to those whose shoulders will bear the responsibility of freedom this year, and to all our comrades behind prison bars—bars that have never been able to separate us from you—we say, we are still standing beside you!
Our generation is the generation of uprising. The same generation that fought fiercely in Mahsa’s uprising, got arrested, and martyred, but never surrendered and never will.
Those who fought in the last uprising in schools are now entering universities, and those who are still in schools have experienced the 2022 uprising. This is the regime’s nightmare as the academic year begins. From now on, the regime must expect a response from schools and universities for every crime it commits.
The strange claim of the new president (Massud Pezeshkian)
New president (Pezeshkian) deceitfully claimed that students have the right to protest! But he didn’t say what happens to them afterward! Yes, we have this right, whether he admits it hypocritically or not. This right, the most fundamental right—the right to the people’s sovereignty and democracy based on a republic—is what we will achieve alongside the people at any cost.
The stockpile of anger and hatred, accumulated through executions, massacres, and oppression, only needs a spark to explode; a spark that could be ignited in a school or university, sparking a nationwide uprising that won’t end until Khamenei’s overthrow.
From the university and school to the streets, a bloody pact remains until the end of the road and the dawn of freedom!”
The Uprising is on its Way
Step forward with hope for light amidst the darkness,
Do not let these soul-crushing sorrows consume your heart,
For the birds born in the garden,
— overflowing with the songs of freedom —
Have never known the joy and exhilaration of liberation,
And those nurtured in the light,
Do not know the grandeur of light at the end of darkness.
