What you are reading under the title “The secret of the execution of Navid Afkari” is a report that is sent by one of the witnesses of the scenes before and after the execution of the political prisoner Navid Afkari, in Adel Abad prison in Shiraz, a few weeks after execution of Navid Afkari, for publication to Iranian Human Rights Society. It was published at the same time. Now, on the anniversary of execution of Navid Afkari, the national hero of Iran, we take help from the same report to disclose the secret of his execution:
Why was Navid Afkari executed in such a strange and hasty manner, and why were they so afraid of him that they broke all their anti-human laws to execute him? We can hear the secret of Navid Afkari’s execution from the words of many people who were close to him…
This secret can also be found in the words of Navid’s grieving mother Bahiya Namjoo where she said: “Navid was very happy, when Navid entered in house, he was dancing and happy and made everyone laugh. He wanted us to be happy. It was very funny…”
After Navid Afkari’s execution, people wrote on the walls: “Your rope is his hero’s medal”.
In a part of the report of a witness about the secret of Navid Afkari’s execution, we read:
“Since a week before Navid Afkari’s execution, the prison’s atmosphere became tense. In the middle of September 2020, about 30 guards attacked Vahid and Habib Afkari and beat them in prison. After this attack, Vahid and Habib Afkari transferred to Ershad prison.
According to this witness, “On September 11, 2020, when Navid Afkari transferred for execution, Vahid protested by knocking on the door for transfering his brother for execution, and guards immediately got into a fight with him and his brother Habib and beat them.”
A summary of the witnesses’ writings
This witness writes:
“Navid was one of the best in Iran; On September 12, 2020, after hearing the news of the execution of Navid Afkari, the national hero of the Iranian people, prisoners of one of the prisons in Adel Abad Shiraz played the song of Iran in the prison and sang together. Then they clapped for a few minutes for the resistance and stability of their national hero Navid Afkari.”
In prisons, including Saadat 11, prisoners held a ceremony for Navid Afkari. The prisoners said that “Navid was executed because He was a freedom fighter and not surrendering, which of course made his family proud and ours proud.”
Navid Afkari never gave up in the courts, he neither bargained nor begged for his own life. But he defended the way of freedom and chivalry that he was in. He said out loud: I swear you’ll regret it; I don’t fear death at all, but I’m completely innocent.
When judiciary could not break Vahid’s resistance,so they were forced to execute Vahid.

About the Afkari brothers
Navid and Vahid Afkari arrested on September 17, 2018 and Habib Afkari on December 13, 2018 in connection with the August 2018 nationwide protests. They have been repeatedly beaten and subjected to medieval tortures during interrogations to obtain confessions.
All three brothers were tried in the Revolutionary Court and alsoin the Shiraz Criminal Court. According to the court decision, Navid Afkari sentenced to 2 times death sentences and also 6 years and 6 months of imprisonment and 74 lashes, Vahid Afkari sentenced to 54 years and 6 months of imprisonment and 74 lashes, Habib Afkari sentenced to 27 years and 3 months of imprisonment and 74 lashes.
